  2. Well, it's finished. It now looks pretty good, but I haven't spent any
  3. time figuring out why the converted files sound nothing like the
  4. original. Mostly because I have only two MIDI files to play with,
  5. neither of which I created myself. But neither of them survives the
  6. conversion without some fatal distortion. I did not write the conversion
  7. routines; all I did was extract them from another program, and package
  8. them up in a neat little Intuition window. You who have downloaded this
  9. file are hereby conscripted and shanghai'ed into being a beta-tester.
  10. In a separate arcfile you can the complete source code as well as a file
  11. from Electronic Arts which "describes" the IFF-SMUS specification. Maybe
  12. you can figure out why the tempo goes south when you go SMUS -> MIDI or
  13. why the quantization screws up when you go MIDI -> SMUS. Frankly, I need
  14. a sequencer which saves standard MIDI files. But right now, my money
  15. goes toward furniture. So send me a few MIDI files, huh? Browse through
  16. all this righteous source code and tell me what you find. Supposedly,
  17. these conversion routines come from the software geniuses at OpCode, so
  18. they *should* be good.
